Yo. What’s up.
If you’ve been putting in real work but the results still look flat, you’re probably tracking lagging indicators and it’s what’s messing with your head.

This issue is about switching to leading indicators instead.

By the end of this, you’ll have:

  • A clear difference between lagging vs leading indicators

  • 3–5 root metrics you can track before results show up

  • A simple way to know if you’re compounding or just busy

If things feel quiet right now, this will help you tell whether that’s a warning…. or a good sign. 👇

The signal problem most people misread:

Most people quit too early because they mistake silence for failure. Early on, results are the last thing to change.

Skills, judgment, confidence, and consistency change first.

That’s the difference between:

  • Lagging indicators → outcomes you can see

  • Leading indicators → behaviours and signals that cause those outcomes

When you track lagging indicators too soon, you end up making bad decisions:

  • changing direction too fast

  • abandoning work that’s actually compounding

  • assuming effort isn’t working when it just hasn’t surfaced yet

This is why two people can do the same work:

one quits because “nothing’s happening”

the other keeps going and suddenly looks “lucky”

If you judge progress by outcomes too early, you’ll always exit before the payoff.

Root metrics to track before results show up

If results are lagging indicators, these are the leading indicators that actually predict progress. Track these instead.

1. Reps Per Week

How many real executions are you completing?

If reps are increasing, momentum is building.

2. Time-to-Execution

How fast do you move from decision to action?

Shorter gaps mean less friction, more confidence and better judgment.

Speed improves before outcomes do.

3. Feedback Frequency

How often are real people responding?

Replies, comments, objections, conversations. Not passive views.

Feedback is an early signal of relevance.

4. Failure Recovery Time

How long does it take you to return to work after something flops?

Days → hours → minutes

That shift alone predicts long-term wins.

5. Identity Consistency

Are your daily actions aligned with who you say you’re becoming?

When behavior matches identity, results eventually follow.

Pro Tip:

If 3 out of 5 of these metrics are improving, don’t change direction yet.

You’re compounding — even if results haven’t caught up.

Do this today:

Write down one lagging metric you’ve been obsessing over

Pick two root metrics from above to replace it

Track only those for the next 14 days

You are already doing the work. Let’s get more people to actually see it.

Film & Flow Premium comes with the monthly Shoutout Challenge: you follow the brief, make your video, and if it hits, it gets blasted to 365,000+ creators on my social channels.

It is a built-in way to get reps, real feedback, and a legit shot at new eyes on your work instead of posting into the void.

If this issue helped you dial in what to track, the Shoutout Challenge is where you test it in public.

That’s it for today.

You don’t need more tactics. You need better signals.

Track what grows before growth shows up.

Let’s keep going.

Let’s build. 💥
